Use Opacus
Paying privately
Pay an Opacus address, a short name or one of your people. The amount, the asset, the note and who paid stay between the two of you.
Who you can pay
Choose Send, then To an Opacus address, and type who you are paying:
- An Opacus address, which starts with
opacus1; - A short name like
@ada. The app looks it up, shows the address it points to and since when, and pays that address; - One of your people, by the name you kept them under;
- A payment request someone sent you: paste it, and the amount, the asset and their note fill in.
Pick the asset, type the amount, add a note if you like, and choose Send privately. To pay without knowing the person's address, send a link instead.
A note with the payment
A payment can carry a note, like "October salary" or "Dinner on Friday", up to 63 bytes. It is encrypted to the payee, like the amount: they read it with the payment, and you keep it in your own history. Nobody else can read it.
What it costs, and how long it takes
A payment inside the pool is free. The relayer, the Opacus service that sends it, pays Solana's fee and the rent itself.
It takes a few seconds: the app reads the pool, makes the payment's proof on your device, the relayer sends it, and Solana confirms it. An open Opacus page on the payee's side sees it within two seconds after that.
What each side sees
| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| You | the payment in your history, with its amount, the note and who you paid |
| The payee | a payment received, its amount and the note, not your address |
| Everyone else | that a payment happened inside the pool at that time, nothing more |
A payment inside the pool names no asset: one in SOL and one in test dollars look the same on Solana, down to their size.
Keep people by name
After paying an address, Keep them by name saves the person under a name you choose, like Ada. Next time, type their name in Send, or use it in a list of payments. Your history then says "Sent to Ada". The names you keep stay in your browser: they are never sent anywhere and never enter the pool.
Receipts
Every payment you sent or received has a Receipt in your history: a link that shows that one payment to whoever you give it, checked against the pool. See Receipts, proofs and statements.
